Mowing Down Your Diet Plan

It's 105 outside, Pete is 105 pounds overweight, and he's going to mow. Why? Because the grass is too tall?  No. Pete thinks that mowing the yard in the hot sun will melt off calories and fat. Smart? No, not smart!

Pete is suffering from Modown Diet with no Temptations in sight. Pete is going to take the weight off regardless, and since he's been bad all this time, packing on the weight, he's going to show his body who is boss! He'll make all that fat pay, by gosh!

Although Pete's intentions are good (well, sorta good) (okay, they suck), his 2 hours of mowing under the hot rays of the sun will accomplish the following:

- increase risk of getting skin cancer

- dehydration

- increase risk of instant pruning that has nothing to do with brush or bushes

- heart risk

- sunburn

- depletion of precious body minerals

As we can see, all of the above are health negatives.  This is what Pete should do to correct his wacko weight loss plan:

- wait until the cooler morning or evening hours before mowing

- protect all uncovered areas with either sun gear or protective lotion

- hydrate while mowing via H2O

Bottom line: mowing in the heat puts your body at risk for sunstroke and heatstroke, particularly older people and people who are overweight. The heart is already working overtime to compensate for the additional weight, and the heat may just be enough to send the heart over the rainbow where wicked witches and ruby shoes reside.
