Foods in their natural state are lower in calories and fat than processed foods.
Since it's very difficult to get completely away from processed foods, before purchasing, always look for specific foods to be listed first on the label 'ingredient information' rather than food additives. For example, if you're eating beef jerky, then beef should be the first ingredient listed. An apple pie?
