Trying to Lose Weight? Then Fruit is Always Dandy Over Randy Candy! While some candies contain little fat, most do - and most belong to the family of the Sugar & Fat Diet Monster. Sugar and fat spell 'Diet Disaster'. It's worse than combining vinegar and baking soda in your new jetty hottub. Keywords that will help you spot candies containing fat include: chewy, nougat, caramel, chocolate - including white chocolate, creamy, nutty, crunchy, decadent, filled and layered. Some candy makers will even market their product using what the public generally considers healthy items, such as yogurt-dipped OR yogurt covered OR packed with healthy raisins OR nuts- thus erroneously infusing the customer with thoughts of, 'This candy must be healthy because it is made with healthy yogurt (or nuts or raisins)!' Trouble is, all the badness inside the candy cancels out any 'overall healthiness' of the candy. What about sugar? Unless the label says, 'sugar free', then it's in there. Sugar free candy doesn't mean 'fat free' candy. In fact, most DO contain fat.
The dieter has several things to consider when it comes to sugar and fat. Both are high in calorie content; both are naturals. So why is it so bad to eat foods created with sugar, such as candy? Let's find out.... Sugar: Sugar is available in several forms. A few examples include: fructose, sucrose and dextrose. Sucrose is a very concentrated form of sugar and is a chief contributor to tooth decay due to its concentrative powers. Fructose is derived from fruit. Though sweet, fruit contains much fewer calories than foods that are created with sugar. Therefore fruit is always the best healthy alternative - whether one is dieting, or not. Fat: Fat warnings abound from most all health organizations focusing on the dangers a high amount of fat in the diet (associated with heart disease, cancers, strokes, respiratory disease, diabetes - and so forth). Fat in itself is an imperative part of the daily diet. Without fat, the body cannot function and death ensues. The confusion with fat in the diet is basically, the AMOUNT of fat that the individual puts into their daily diet. Fat is essential; but only a smidgen will do. Your best Diet Alternative to candy? Fruit!
